Pi FESTIVAL AND EINSTEIN'S BIRTHDAY

Free admission on Sunday, March 14, for anyone named Albert or born on 3.14

Any way you slice it, the Pi Festival at the Museum of Science and History will be loads of fun! We’ll be celebrating the mathematical constant pi (3.14159265358979323846) along with the birthday of the mathematical genius Albert Einstein with mind-blowing activities in Innovation Studios throughout the weekend. Pi activities will begin Friday, March 12, at 3:14 p.m. and conclude Sunday, March 14, at 5 p.m.

Pi events will relate to the irregular number, pi, and to the circular shape, and will include:

  • Pi TALKS: Dr. Pamela Littleton will speak on the mathematical constant, pi, using real world examples and stories to make the number more interesting and understandable. Dr. Littleton, professor of mathematics at Tarleton State University, recipient of the Regents Professor award, the highest honor bestowed by The Texas A&M University System.
  • CHAIN REACTION: Build circular sections with varied objects to trigger a fall and cause a chain reaction
  • Pi DOODLES: Doodle with circles
  • Pi CHAINS: Link circular objects together
  • Pi BLING: Make a pi bracelet  
  • PIZZA Pi: Watch a Pizza Pi dough tossing demonstration and enjoy pizza pi bytes while they last (Saturday, March 13 only -  2 p.m.)
  • BIRTHDAY HATS: Create an Albert Einstein birthday hat (Sunday, March 14 only - 2:30 - 5 p.m.)

 

Please note, activities are available while supplies last. All Pi activities are included with paid exhibit admission and are free for Museum members. On Sunday, March 14, anyone named Albert or those who share Einstein’s birthday (3/14) will get free admission to Museum exhibits. Show your valid ID at the Museum Ticket Office. 

 


 

SATURDAY, MARCH 20

SUN-EARTH DAY

11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Celebrate our planet’s relationship to the sun through solar cooking, safe solar viewing, investigations with sunlight, solar panel demonstrations, and more. Free for members and with paid exhibit admission. Dedication of the Museum's Green Mountain Energy solar panels will kick off the event. 11 a.m.- 3 p.m.
