For more than 66 years, Museum School has been opening young minds to a world of natural wonder.  Today, Museum School continues to be a national model for informal science education.  The engaging curriculum of the school-year preschool program combines natural and physical science, history and anthropology with art, music and literature, and is supported by specimens and artifacts from the Museum's science and history teaching collections.

Each week, class topics and activities change or build on each other, taking children on an exciting journey of investigation and discovery. The richness of real objects, curatorial support and a dedicated staff ensure first-hand, developmentally-appropriate learning experiences that enrich children’s lives.

NEW FOR FALL/SPRING 2017-2018

In addition to the traditional 2 hour or 2 ½ hour class times for ages 3-5, we have added several new programs:

“Stay and Play” is an optional after-school opportunity for children enrolled in a Wednesday afternoon four or five-year-old class.  Each week, “Stay and Play” offers various experiences that include guided indoor and outdoor play, creative activities and visits to various areas of the museum.

“Stay All Day” is a full class day option for the Thursday five-year-old class or the Friday five/six-year-old “Museum School Explorers” class.  This full day class format provides extended exploration into the morning topic and features an additional listening time, and extra science investigations and creative opportunities.

“Museum School Explorers” is a Friday class for five/six-year-old children that features a deeper learning focus on the habitat topics and environment concepts of the traditional five-year-old curriculum. This program has the "Stay All Day" extended class option.

The Museum School Scholarship Program offers economic assistance to families so their children may experience an educational and exciting Museum School class.  Funding for the scholarship program is made possible by generous contributions from individuals whose goal is to help all children gain the life-long benefits Museum School has to offer.  A limited number of scholarships are awarded on financial need and are allotted on a first-come basis.
