Construction Updates

Prior to March, much of the construction on the new Museum of Science and History was behind-the-scenes preparation work. Recently, however, progress has been much more visible:

Installation of the 330 foundation piers should be complete in April.

Staining on the exterior of the Omni Theater continues, with staining on the north face complete and work nearly complete on the west face.

Work to upgrade the interior of the Omni Theater continues. Crews will install sheetrock and paint the interior in April. The theater will reopen this summer; an opening date has not been announced.

Crews continue to work on the "link" that will connect the Omni Theater and the main areas of the new facility. Slab has been poured for each of three levels of the structure and crews will begin work on the roof and walls of the link in early April.

Steel for the facility's Museum School, energy gallery and children's museum will start arriving at the end of April. Much of the museum's steel structure will be erected in May.

Webcam offers birds-eye view of construction activity
Get a bird’s-eye view of this construction on our live webcam. The webcam allows you to watch real-time video of the construction site around the clock. Once you “take control” of the webcam, you can pivot the camera left, right, up or down and zoom in on any area within the camera’s range. The webcam, positioned atop the Will Rogers Memorial Center’s Landmark Pioneer Tower, will remain throughout the Museum’s two-year construction project. See what’s happening on the webcam now!

Time-lapse photography
If you don’t want to tune in to the webcam each day, the Museum is also utilizing time-lapse photography to document the two-year construction process. A second camera, positioned to the east on the Will Rogers Memorial Center’s Swine Barn, has been capturing a steady stream of photos of the construction since September 2007.
